Expanding the scope of the restrictive measures on the European Terrorism List

The Council of the European Union in Brussels took a new decision to strengthen the Union’s efforts to combat terrorism, as it expanded the scope of restrictive measures linked to the European Terrorism List.
The decision included amending the listing criteria to include prominent leaders and members of the groups and entities on the list, who play essential roles in planning, implementing, facilitating, or preparing terrorist acts, in addition to including persons, groups, and entities associated with them, whether through participation in financing terrorism or contributing to training or recruitment.
The Council also decided to impose a travel ban on the individuals included in the list, in addition to freezing their assets and preventing them from being provided with funds or economic resources.
He also announced the completion of the periodic review of the list of persons, groups and entities subject to restrictive measures as a result of their involvement in terrorist acts, stressing that the list will be maintained without any amendment, which ensures the continued freezing of the assets of all those listed and the prohibition of their access to any financial resources within the European Union.
The Council stressed that terrorism and violent extremism, in their various forms and sources, continue to pose a serious threat to the security of the European Union and its member states.
