International Migration Organization: The return of more than 100,000 immigrants voluntarily from Libya

According to the organization, tens of thousands of immigrants have returned safely and voluntarily to 49 indigenous countries in Africa and Asia, including Nigeria, Mali, Niger, Bangladesh and Gambia. Among those who received help were nearly 73,000 men, about 17 thousand women, and more than 10,000 children – some of them were not accompanied by their families.
Nicolita Giordano, head of the International Immigration Organization Mission in Libya, said: “While we continue to provide humanitarian aid to weak population groups, we are also working to support more sustainable and long -term solutions.”.
The voluntary return program covers a comprehensive package of assistance before leaving and after return, including protection services, health examinations, psychological and social support, facilitating travel documents, and assisting reintegration.
Last week alone, five return trips were organized, two from Benghazi, two from Sebha, and one of Misurata, which confirms the broad operational scope of the program.
While the voluntary return program provides very important support to many, the International Organization for Migration is still expressing its deep concern over the challenges and the ongoing risks faced by migrants along the middle of the Mediterranean.
