Pakistan intends to nominate Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize

On Saturday, Pakistan announced its intention to recommend US President Donald Trump to win the Nobel Peace Prize, praising his efforts that contributed to calming the recent tension with India, which almost developed into an open conflict between the two sides.

Islamabad said in an official statement that Trump expressed after a strategic consideration and political skill in dealing with both Pakistan and India, noting that his intervention “contributed directly to containing a crisis that was heading towards escalation,” describing it as a “real peace maker.”

This announcement came after a meeting that gathered the American President with the commander of the Pakistani army, General Asim Mounir, during a lunch in the White House, in the first invitation of its kind to a Pakistani military commander during the era of a civilian government in Islamabad.

It is reported that in May, Trump announced a ceasefire between the two nuclear neighbors after four days of escalating military tension. Since then, he has repeatedly expressed his conviction that it prevented an imminent war, and that he saved millions of lives, criticizing the international community’s ignorance of its role in this settlement.

While Pakistan agrees with this evaluation, American mediation is a direct reason for stopping the fighting, but India insists that the armistice was the fruit of a bilateral agreement between the two countries of the two countries without external interference.

Trump had previously presented the mediation between India and Pakistan on the Kashmir file, which represents the main tension between the two countries.

In a recent publication on social media, Trump recounted a list of conflicts that he said he contributed to his resolution, pointing to them to the Indian-Pakistani conflict.

It is noteworthy that the Nobel Peace Prize lists allow governments to nominate individuals for the award, giving Pakistan the legal right to submit an official recommendation in the name of Trump.
