Abu Dhabi, June 26 / WAM / The Ministry of Economy and Tourism signed a memorandum of understanding with the Emirates Intellectual Property Association, with the aim of enhancing joint cooperation in implementing a training program for trademark registration agents in the country, aiming to provide them with the skills and knowledge necessary to obtain a certificate of accreditation that qualifies them to represent customers in the procedures for registration of brands that witnessed continuous growth in the country where its number reached 385,774 national and international brands A registered in the UAE markets, and 388 agent registration agents at the end of May this year, which reflects the state’s attractiveness as a regional and global center for brands and a competitive and innovative business environment.
The memorandum was signed by His Excellency Abdullah Ahmed Al Saleh, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy and Tourism; His Excellency Major General Dr. Abdul Quddus Abdul Razzaq Al -Obaidli, Assistant Commander in Chief for Excellence and Entrepreneurship in Dubai Police, Chairman of the Emirates Intellectual Property Society, and in the presence of His Excellency Dr. Abdul Rahman Hassan Al -Moaini, Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Intellectual Property.
His Excellency Abdullah Al Saleh said: “The Ministry of Economy and Tourism is keen to continue its efforts in developing the organizational and legislative frameworks for the intellectual property sector, as it is one of the vital sectors to enhance the growth and competitiveness of the national economy, and in this context the new partnership with the Emirates Intellectual Property Association represents an important step to enhance the efficiency of the offices of trademark registration agents in the country and increase its numbers according to best practices, as well as facilitate registration procedures and provide distinguished services to owners Trademarks.
For his part, His Excellency Major General Dr. Abdel -Quds Abdul Razzaq Al -Obaidli, President of the Emirates Intellectual Property Association said: “We are proud of this constructive cooperation with the Ministry of Economy and Tourism to present a qualitative training program that supports the state’s efforts in building qualified national cadres in the field of intellectual property. For intellectual property (WIPO), in a way that ensures professional training with international standards. We have also published a group of experts and legal practitioners specialized in the field, to ensure the transfer of accurate and comprehensive knowledge of the participants.
His Excellency continued: “The program covers a set of vital topics in the field of trademarks, including local and international laws, agreements such as the Madrid Protocol, registration procedures, objections, and renewal, as well as simulation of official tests,” noting that this initiative comes within the framework of the two parties seeking to enable legal practitioners and workers in the sector to keep pace with legislative and technical developments in the field of registration of brands, and promoting the environment Innovation and competitiveness of the UAE.
According to the signed memorandum of understanding, the Ministry of Economy and Tourism provides technical support and the necessary guidelines related to training and tests for the approval of trademark registration agents, while the Emirates Intellectual Property Association organizes training courses designated for qualifying agents, in accordance with the controls and standards specified in the relevant ministerial decision, and the two parties will provide the participants in the training program with special technical and practical knowledge With procedures for registration of commercial workers in the country, in order to enhance their commitment to the highest professional and ethical standards.
The Ministry of Economy and Tourism provides through its website the “registration of the brand registration agent”, which allows customers to apply for their registration in the agents’ record to carry out a trademark registration activity, as well as a new brand registration service.
