The United Nations scheduled describing the UAE’s progress in women’s rights as “exceptional”

The United Nations Special Resolution on Violence against Women and Girls, Mrs. Reem Al -Salem, praised during the fifty -ninth session of the Human Rights Council, the great progress made by the United Arab Emirates in promoting gender equality and protecting women from violence, and described what has been achieved as “exceptional”, praising the strong political commitment to gender equality, and the growing efforts made to empower women in the political and economic fields And social.

Al -Salem said: “The UAE has made tremendous steps, especially in the fields of political and economic participation of women, which reflects the political will and the vision that values ​​the role and contribution of women in society.”

She emphasized that “achieving gender parity in the Federal National Council and the increasing representation of women in leadership positions, in addition to the fundamental legal reforms, are all clear indications of the state’s commitment to protecting and empowering women.”

Mrs. Al -Salem also praised the UAE’s continued progress in the field of women’s rights, adding: “The proactive approach adopted by the government, including large investments in protecting women and children in crises, reflects the state’s commitment to ensuring safety and equality for all women and girls. These efforts are essential to building a future in which women can fully contribute to the national development process.”

The permanent representative of the UAE to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Jamal Jameh Al -Mashrakh, welcomed the special decision statements, stressing that “this successful visit embodies the firm commitment of the UAE to enhance the rights of women and girls at the national and international levels, and reflects our deep belief that empowering women and ensuring their full, equal and effective participation in society is the basis for building comprehensive and prosperous societies.”

The honorable ambassador stressed that the work is still continuing, saying: “The UAE confirms its continuation in close cooperation with the United Nations, and it will continue to work on the implementation of the recommendations made by the special decision, as part of its continuous endeavor to ensure the protection of women and girls’ rights and their achievement on the ground.”

The United Nations Special Resolution on Violence against Women and Girls had made an official visit to the UAE in December 2024, where the country organized a number of field visits, and facilitated holding meetings with government officials, representatives of civil society, and other concerned destinations.
