UNIFIL: Three air strikes on southern Lebanon, amid the continued Israeli military presence

UNIFIL’s spokesman, Stephen Dujarric, said during the daily press conference in New York today, Thursday, that UNIFIL peacekeepers continue to discover unlicensed weapons and ammunition hideouts in their operations area, as the mission discovered on June 23, unintended weapons containing ammunition and explosives in the eastern sector.
He added that since the endowment of hostilities has entered into force in November last year, “The UN peacekeepers discovered 272 unlicensed weapons, and all of them were referred to the Lebanese army.”
UNIFIL also hosted a meeting of the mechanism of stopping hostilities at the headquarters of the mission in Ras Naqura yesterday, headed by the United States of America, in the presence of the Lebanese Armed Forces, the Israeli army and representatives of France.
Mr. Dujarric pointed out that the UNIFIL mine’s removal experts also completed the removal of unexploded munitions in two United Nations sites along the blue line in the western sector of the operations area during the past weeks, and he explained: “In total, 6260 square meters of land were cleared in these two sites.”
He added that UNIFIL is also working with the Lebanese Center for Mine Works to start removing mines for humanitarian purposes in its operations area.
