Abu Dhabi, June 30 / WAM / The Supreme Committee for Commercial Fraud discussed during its first meeting headed by His Excellency Abdullah Ahmed Al Saleh, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy, ways to enhance legislative and regulatory frameworks to confront commercial fraud in the country, and to enhance joint coordination with the federal and local authorities concerned to facilitate the exchange of information and data related to cases of commercial fraud, in a way that contributes to raising all response and taking deterrent measures regarding them, It enables sound commercial practices and enhances the protection of consumer rights in the country.
His Excellency Abdullah Al Saleh said that the UAE, thanks to the directives of its wise leadership, paid great attention to creating a prosperous and competitive business environment for companies and brands, upgrading internal trade and enabling sound commercial practices, especially since the country currently has more than 2000 economic activities to practice and start various business and embrace more than 1.1 million companies and economic institutions.
He added that the decision of the Council of Ministers to form the Supreme Committee to Combat Commercial fraud is a continuation of the state’s efforts in this regard, by supporting the development of the economic legislative system to confront all forms of commercial fraud and push them to advanced levels that contribute to protecting consumer rights and ensuring the highest levels of compliance with relevant economic legislation and policies, in line with the state’s directions in enhancing the business environment and investment, in light of the targets of vision vision “We are 2031”.
The Supreme Committee for Commercial Fraud undertakes a set of tasks and roles, the most prominent of which is the proposal of policies and legislation related to combating commercial fraud, enhancing cooperation between the concerned authorities and the competent authorities for electronic exchange and supporting the benefit of data and information related to cases of commercial fraud in the country, and the development and implementation of awareness programs for consumers and companies about its damages.
As well as organizing periodic inspection campaigns for shops and companies to ensure compliance with relevant laws and legislations, as well as regional and international cooperation with a group of concerned authorities through data exchange, building partnerships, implementing joint work programs on commercial fraud, in order to support the state classification in international reports and indicators of counterfeit goods and providing appropriate recommendations on them.
During its meeting, the committee discussed the possibility of preparing an integrated and comprehensive national plan in cooperation with the relevant authorities and institutions to combat commercial fraud, which target consumers and companies to raise awareness of the dangers of commercial fraud, and focuses on highlighting how to discover commercial fraud and the use of modern technologies to detect it, and encourage consumers to report any improper commercial cases or practices, as well as the importance of the risks of commercial fraud and its negative effects on Trust in markets, consumer and trademark rights.
The committee also reviewed a proposal in advance from the Emirates Intellectual Property Association, which includes organizing specialized workshops, programs and dialogue sessions targeting employees of the government and private sectors in the country, with the aim of qualifying the inspectors and enabling them to identify counterfeit products, enhance their capabilities in protecting brands from fraud and imitation, and the distinction between the original and counterfeit goods, as well as providing them with skills and mechanisms to confront commercial fraud in the e -commerce sector,, And strengthening the role of the private sector as an effective partner in the anti -commercial fraud system in the country.
