The humanitarian situation in Gaza is catastrophic and requires urgent action

The World Health Organization said that Israeli attacks on sheltering sites and food distribution areas have killed and wounded dozens.

Dr. Rick Biberkarn, the organization’s representative in Palestine, during a press briefing (via video from Gaza), told reporters in Geneva today that about 90 Palestinians are killed daily, in addition to more than 200 injured, calling for the suspension of indiscriminate killing in Gaza.

He pointed out that the health system in the sector is facing a severe shortage of medical supplies and fuel in light of the lack of any fuel for more than 120 days, stressing that the available precautions are almost not sufficient to operate 17 partial hospitals for a short period and said that some of these precautions are in difficult areas.

Bayberborn pointed out that Al -Shifa Hospital is working at its lowest capacity due to the lack of fuel, which forced him to reduce his medical services, pointing to an imminent danger that threatens the lives of 13 patients in the intensive care unit depending on the recovery devices.

In the same context, he explained that the Nasser Medical Complex is crowded with patients coming from the United Nations food distribution sites where the doctors are forced to make difficult decisions between treating emergency injuries and sponsoring chronic diseases, which may lead to deaths that can be avoided.

He transferred shocking certificates to the organization’s teams, including the injury of a 13 -year -old child with a bullet in the head, along with two “16 and 21 years”, who were injured in the spine and became completely paralyzed.

Biebercorn stressed that more than 10,000 people in Gaza need a medical evacuation, noting that the organization recently managed to evacuate 19 children, 39 facilities to Jordan, and 4 patients with 7 accompanying to Türkiye.

He pointed out that since March 18, only 7 medical evacuations have been carried out that included 317 patients and 504 facilities, bringing the number of those evacuated since October 2023 to 7,425 people, including 5127 children.
