Sharjah, on July 10/ WAM/ The “House of Wisdom” in Sharjah concluded the activities of the “Literature Literature” exhibition, which attracted about 13 thousand visitors over a period of four months in a visual cultural experience that highlighted the contributions of travelers, geographic and maps in Islamic civilization and their role in establishing the science of paths and kingdoms, developing geographical knowledge and drawing the features of the world during the golden age of Islamic sciences and the subsequent ages.
The exhibition came as part of the series “Chapters of Islamic Art”, which was opened by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and includes a rare collection of books dedicated by His Highness from Professor Richard Intanghausen, which exceeds 12 thousand books in the fields of history, arts and Islamic sciences.
The event reviewed the prominent contributions of a constellation of travelers and geographers in Islamic history over 13 centuries such as Ibn Khardah, Al -Askhari, Ibn Hawqal, Yaqout al -Hamwi, Ibn Jubair, Ibn Battuta and Ibn Majid, and highlighted their contributions to composition and classification.
Marwa Al -Aqoubi, Executive Director of the House of Al -Hikma, said that the exhibition (Trips Literature) was not just a display of manuscripts and maps, but a platform to revive the cognitive memory of Islamic civilization and link generations the history of humanities and geographical sciences from an authentic Arab perspective and reflects the great demand for society’s awareness of the importance of returning to the intellectual roots on which a civilization is based still alive to this day.
In parallel with the organization of the exhibition, the House of Wisdom organized an interactive program for children and adolescents that included a series of educational and artistic workshops inspired by the topic of “trips literature” with the aim of consolidating the concepts of discovery, documentation and imagination in the hearts of emerging generations and their introduction to the importance of this literature in understanding the world and exchanging cultures.
