European Commissioner: We give priority to a negotiating solution with the United States on customs duties

Brussels, July 12/ WAM/ Ursula von der Line, President of the European Commission, confirmed that imposing customs duties by 30 percent by the United States on European Union exports would disrupt the basic supply chains across the Atlantic Ocean at the expense of companies, consumers and patients on its sides, and in the first European reaction to US President Donald Trump’s announcement of customs duties on the European Union.
Von der Line said in statements that there are a few economies in the world that are comparable to the level of openness and commitment to the European Union in terms of fair commercial practices, adding that the European Union has given a continuation of priority to a negotiating solution with the United States, which reflects our commitment to dialogue, stability and constructive via Atlantic partnership.
She noted that the European Union is still continuing to work to reach an agreement by the first of August at the same time to take all necessary steps to protect its interests, including adopting counterfeit measures if necessary.
At the same time, she said, we continue to deepen our global partnerships, established according to the principles of international trade -based trade.
