The UAE is implementing the largest project to supply desalinated water from Egypt to the southern Gaza Strip

The UAE “Al -Shahham 3” operation announced the start of the implementation of a humanitarian project to supply desalinated water from the Egyptian side to the southern Gaza Strip, through a new carrier that is the largest of its kind, within the framework of urgent interventions to address the water disaster that ravages the besieged sector.

During a press conference held at the headquarters of the Coast Municipalities Authority in Deir Al -Balah, the operation announced the establishment of a 315 mm water line and a length of 6.7 km, linking the desalination plant established by the UAE on the Egyptian side, and the displacement area between Khan Yunis and Rafah governorates.

The project aims to serve about 600,000 people from the affected population, by providing 15 liters of desalinated water per person per day, in light of the destruction of more than 80% of water facilities due to difficult events in the Gaza Strip.

Sherif Al -Nayr, the media official of the “Al -Faris 3” operation in the Gaza Strip, stressed that “the new water line project is not just an emergency response to the thirst crisis in Gaza, but rather an extension of a fixed Emirati approach in supporting the Palestinian people, especially in light of the catastrophic conditions that the war left.”

He added: “The UAE was and still is the first support for Gaza in various sectors, starting with the establishment of desalination plants, through providing the department with water tanks, drilling wells, and network maintenance, and ending with this vital project that seeks to secure drinking water for the most affected areas.”

Engineer Omar Shatat, Deputy Director General of the Municipal Water Authority for Technical Affairs, expressed his thanks to the UAE, which has not failed since the first day of the war for the service of our people in the Gaza Strip, through a series of major projects and continuous support, which contributed to facilitating the work of municipalities and local community institutions, and ensuring that water has reached and improving basic services in very difficult conditions.

Khalil Abu Shamala, a civil society representative in the Gaza Strip, appreciated the vital role that the UAE plays in supporting the sector, praising the humanitarian projects that it implements within the process of “Al -Faris Al -Shahh 3”, stressing that these projects give the population a real opportunity to obtain healthy and safe water, which enhances their ability to withstand the challenges and continuous crises that strike the sector.

This project is a new episode within the series of initiatives launched by the “Al -Faris 3” operation to address the repercussions of the collapse of the infrastructure, especially in the water file, and continues its efforts to reduce the humanitarian catastrophe and enhance the resilience of the population.
