Brussels, July 16 / WAM / The European Commission revealed a proposal for a long -term budget for the period from 2028 to 2034, at a value of 2 trillion euros.

This budget, which represents a fundamental redress of the European budget, aims to face the increasing strategic challenges in the areas of security, defense, competitiveness and immigration.

UNHCR, Ursula von der Line, said that the new budget “will enable us to draw our destiny according to our vision and values, in a way that supports peace and prosperity,” noting that it will help protect citizens and revive the European industry.

The proposed budget highlights the new priorities of the Union, as it allocated 409 billion euros to the new European Competitiveness Fund, and 131 billion euros for defense and space, while doubling the budget for border protection and immigration to reach 34 billion euros.

On the external level, the plan includes the “World European” tool worth 200 billion euros to support partnerships, of which it may allocate up to 100 billion euros to support Ukraine.

The plan also proposes the creation of a new mechanism to counter crises with a value of up to 400 billion euros in the form of loans for member states, and to continue financing innovation through the Horizon Europe program with a value of 175 billion euros.
To ensure the sustainability of financing and reduce the burden on national budgets, the framework proposes five new self -financing sources expected to generate about 58.5 billion euros annually.

The new budget discussions are scheduled to start between the member states of the European Council, and they will be approved unanimously after the European Parliament.
