UAE peaceful nuclear program .. complete transparency entrenches global leadership

Abu Dhabi, July 22/ WAM/ The UAE has established its global position as a model for the development of sound nuclear stations, since the launch of the UAE peaceful nuclear program, based on solid foundations that enabled it within a decade to become a reference example for countries wishing to adopt nuclear energy within the mix of energy sources.
Among the main pillars on which the Emirates Nuclear Energy Company relied on in developing the Baraka peaceful nuclear energy stations, is its commitment to transparency at all stages, which was confirmed by the International Atomic Energy Agency in its report for 2024, by granting the UAE a classification of “complete transparency” for the third year in a row, to emphasize the state’s strict commitment to international agreements for the prohibition of nuclear proliferation and the application of guarantees, along with a peaceful aspect Its nuclear program.
The march of the Emirati peaceful nuclear program, from its inception, was based on the vision of the wise leadership, which developed a clear road map through the “UAE policy of the UAE policy to assess the possibility of developing a peaceful nuclear energy program” issued in April 2008, which emphasized a number of fundamental principles, including full transparency, commitment to the highest safety and security standards, and the prohibition of nuclear proliferation, in addition to close cooperation with governments And international bodies, led by the International Atomic Energy Agency, culminated in the issuance of the nuclear energy law in 2009, which stipulated the state’s commitment to the highest standards of transparency, safety and nuclear security.
The Emirates Nuclear Energy Company was keen, during the stages of developing the Baraka stations, to consolidate its relations with the International Atomic Energy Agency, which conducted about 15 reviews of review and inspection of the stations, as well as continuous cooperation with leading international organizations such as the International Organization for Nuclear Persons, which in turn conducted about 84 reviews and evaluation, ensuring commitment to the highest international standards in this sector, as the federal body conducted Nuclear control in the country has 496 comprehensive inspection and review of all operations and procedures at Baraka stations.
His Excellency Mohamed Al Hammadi, Managing Director and CEO of the Emirates Nuclear Energy Company, said that the support of the rational leadership and the clear road map that it set for the peaceful nuclear program was the most important factor in the company’s march on the development of Baraka nuclear energy stations, during which it was keen to adhere to the local regulations.
In statements to the Emirates News Agency “WAM”, this cooperation formed one of the basic elements to promote safety, security and sustainable development in the world, as it is the cornerstone of improving nuclear performance for all the countries concerned, whether it has large nuclear programs or that seeks to launch new programs.
Al -Hammadi appreciated the important role for all partners and supervisory bodies in the country, whose contributions had a great impact in achieving these achievements, which are an incentive to continue excellence in the nuclear energy sector, explaining that the Baraka stations are the beginning only, as the company continues to explore the opportunities to develop advanced reactors technologies and publish them, as well as investment opportunities in nuclear energy projects inside and outside Emirates Nuclear Energy.
The UAE joined the International Atomic Energy Agency in 1976, and signed several agreements to enhance transparency and non -nuclear proliferation. In 1995, the state signed with the agency the Non -Proliferation Treaty, which consists of comprehensive guarantees to reduce nuclear spread and ensure the use of nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
The two sides also signed the additional protocol of the comprehensive guarantees agreement, which enhances the ability of the International Atomic Energy Agency to verify nuclear activities, and provides a higher level of transparency in the use of nuclear materials and technology.
The state concluded with the agency a memorandum of understanding on technical cooperation, which includes cooperation in various fields that guarantee the safe and peaceful use of nuclear energy, the development of human capabilities and infrastructure, as well as cooperation in the areas of nuclear security to ensure the highest nuclear safety standards for the UAE peaceful nuclear program.
