“Priority today to stop the Gaza war” .. France recognizes the State of Palestine

French President Emmanuel Macron said today that France decided to recognize the State of Palestine “in fulfillment of its historical commitment for a just and lasting peace in the Middle East.”
He added in a post on the “X” platform, which included an official message to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, that this decision will be officially announced in the United Nations General Assembly, next September.
Macron added: “I hope that recognition will contribute to achieving a firm peace in the Middle East.”
Macron said that the French “want peace in the Middle East. We are the French, and with the Israelis, the Palestinians, and our European and international partners, to prove that peace is possible.”
He added that “based on the obligations that the President of the Palestinian Authority pledged to me personally, I wrote to him expressing my resolve to move forward.”
He stressed that the priority now is to stop the war in Gaza and provide relief to the civilian population, and continued: “A ceasefire must be immediately reached, the release of all detainees, and the provision of great humanitarian assistance to the Gaza population.”
