For unknown reasons, dead and injured after a train left its course in Germany
The police in Germany announced the killing of at least 3 people after a regional passenger train left its path in the forest area in the southwest of the country on Sunday evening.
On board the train was about 100 passengers at the time of the accident at about 18,10 (16.10 GMT) near Ridlingn, Baden -Wortterberg, about 100 km south of Stuttgart.
A police spokesman confirmed that 3 people were killed in the accident, adding that “several people were injured.”
The police did not mention more details about the number of injured people or the seriousness of their condition.
The reasons are still unknown
The German rail company, “Deutsche,”, announced several deaths and a large number of injuries.
She explained that two vehicles from the train went out of the path “for reasons that are still unknown, and the authorities are currently investigating the circumstances of the accident,” noting that the movement of trains stopped in a sector that spanned about 40 kilometers.
German media reported that a landslide may be the cause with violent thunderstorms, according to weather reports.
Counselor Friedrich Mertz expressed his “deep sorrow” and “his sympathy for the victims and their relatives.”
He added on the X platform: “I am in close contact with the Minister of Interior and the Minister of Transport, which asked them to provide all the necessary resources for the rescue teams.”
Helicopters to evacuate the wounded
At the scene of the accident, firefighters were working to move the yellow and gray train cars that turned on their side, according to photos broadcast by TV stations, in a difficult area.
Helicopters were also sent to evacuate the wounded to nearby hospitals.
The German transportation sector is subjected to regular criticism from travelers for delaying trains and infrastructure.
