UN agencies: Gaza on the brink of famine and air projections is ineffective and dangerous

This came in the latest update on the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip. The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (A.UNRWAThe “famine” in Gaza is fully man -made.
She stressed the need to allow the United Nations, including UNRWA, to perform its work in order to safely reach aid to those who need it, including a million hungry children.
Juliet Toma, Director of Information and Communication at UNRWA, said that “Weather projections are absolutely unnecessary, ineffective, expensive, and risky.”
She pointed out that there is “a safer and faster way and preserves human dignity, which is the delivery of aid via land roads.” She said that the United Nations – including UNRWA – was able to enter between 500 to 600 trucks on a daily basis during the ceasefire earlier this year.
The Group of Protection has warned that weather projections may kill or afflict civilians and are insufficient in size to meet the extensive needs inside Gaza, among other concerns.
More than 60,000 Palestinians were killed
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs stated that the Israeli forces continued their intense air, land and maritime shelling on the Gaza Strip during the past week, in conjunction with continuous land operations.
The Palestinian armed groups also fired rockets at Israel, and clashed with the Israeli forces. Since July 20, the Israeli authorities have not issued any new displacement orders.
According to the Ministry of Health in Gaza, 640 Palestinians were killed and 3224 others were wounded from 23 to 30 July. The total number of deaths since the seventh of October was at least 60,138 Palestinians and the injury of 146,269 others, according to the ministry.
Since the beginning of the war, the World Health Organization has reported the evacuation of 7,460 patients from Gaza, including 5,160 children for treatment abroad.
Connecting a water desalination plant south of Gaza to the electricity network
The Israeli authorities have announced daily tactical stops for ten hours in military activities in the areas of Al -Mawsa, Deir Al -Balah and Gaza City, as part of other steps to increase the volume of humanitarian aid entering Gaza.
The Israeli authorities also linked a water desalination plant south of Gaza with the electricity network, which enabled them to work at full capacity.
The danger of gender -based violence
The Office of Humanitarian Coordination (OCHA) reported that overcrowding in shelters, lack of privacy and increasing levels of food insecurity exacerbated the risk of gender -based violence on women and girls, amid serious disturbances in continuing service.
In southern Gaza, the situation is particularly terrible, as there is no longer a safe shelter for survivors from gender -based violence, after the issuance of the displacement order on July 20, which was forced to transfer services to Gaza City.
Most of the employees who deal with gender -based violence – like the rest of the population – have displaced hunger, insecurity and poor living conditions that have limited their ability to provide support.
So far in July, partners who deal with gender -based violence provided individual consultations to 3,017 women to enhance well -being and recovery, 332 survivors of gender -based violence with cash assistance, compared to 2221 women who received consultations and 409 gender -based violence survivors teaching cash assistance in June.
