On August 12, every year, the world celebrates the “International Youth Day”, which was approved by the United Nations, to highlight the issues of youth, their needs, and their effective participation in societies. The drama played a prominent role in showing everything related to this category, through Arab and foreign works, discussing thorny issues, such as: unemployment, addiction, society and identity.

On the occasion of the International Youth Day, we remember together the 6 most dramatic works, which formed prominent stations in providing an honest picture of youth problems:

1. The series “University”:

The youth series par excellence, its events took place in a private university, where it highlighted the relationships of love, friendship, class struggle and internal conflicts that students live in their prime ages. The series “Al -Rawabi School for Girls” is one of the most prominent Arab youth dramas, which sparked widespread controversy, and has achieved great fame inside and outside the Arab world. The series revolves around a school for girls, where the students discover a harsh world behind the pink walls, from: bullying, persecution, psychological violence, and social pressures practiced in the name of customs and traditions. The work was distinguished by its boldness in raising the issues of adolescents and Arab women, and how the educational environment may, sometimes, turn into a space for violence; Instead of safety, especially in the absence of support from family or institutions.

The series “The Children of the Sun” is considered one of the dramas, which discussed the problems of young people, but in a different way, as it monitored the lives of young people in the role of orphans, and their lives inside the house that are characterized by cruelty, difficulty and exploitation, in addition to focusing on the lives of people, who go out to public life after their arrival for legal age, and how they are exposed to bullying, problems and crises in this new world.

4. The series “13 Renesons Why»:

The series “13 Reasons why”, about the suicide of a teenage girl named “Hannah Baker”, who leaves behind 13 cassette tapes, explains the reasons or the people who paid her to make a decision to end her life, and the young “Clay Jensen”, her boyfriend and her colleague at school, discovers these tapes, so he begins a painful journey to discover what happened to her, and the truth of what is going on in his school environment.

5. “Euphoria”:

The youth series “Euphoria”, about “Roo Bennett”, is the teenage girl who suffers from addiction, depression and anxiety, and graduated from a rehabilitation center after a failed attempt to commit suicide. But she does not intend to recover, and returns directly to addiction after returning home.

The series branches from the story of “Row” to the stories of a group of other adolescents, who all live in a small American town, and face complicated personal conflicts, related to identity, addiction, violence, relationships and family.

6. “Boys Over Flowers»:

“Boys before appearing”, from the Korean series that monitored the problems of students in schools, specifically adolescents, as it revolves around “Gom Jean D” a girl from a modestly financial family, working in cleaning clothes, and gets a scholarship at the “Shin Hawa School”, which is intended for the children of the wealthy class and the elite. In this school, “Jean de” collides with a group of 4 boys, called “F4”, most notably: “Go John Pio”, the rich and arrogant heir, and “Yun Ji Ho”, the sensitive and isolated young man.

Over time, the relationship between “Jean de” and “John Pio” turns from hatred to love, in light of major conflicts between the social classes, and the rejection of the “John Pio” family their relationship due to class differences.
