Gaza – UNESCO condemns the killing of six Palestinian journalists

In a press release, Audrey Azoulay, UNESCO Director General, called for a comprehensive and transparent investigation in this regard. She said that targeting journalists covering conflicts is unacceptable and contradicts international humanitarian law.

She repeated her call to respect Security Council Resolution 2222 unanimously issued in 2015 on protecting journalists and media workers and associated with them, as civilians in cases Future Charter The United Nations.

The Director General said toThe United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Anas Al -Sharif, Muhammad Qureiq, Ibrahim Zahir, Muhammad Nawfal and Moamen Eliwa worked with Al -Jazeera International News channel, and Muhammad al -Qadi was an independent journalist photographer.

UNESCO recorded the killing of at least 62 journalists and workers in the media field during their work in Palestine since October 2023. This number does not include those who have been killed in conditions unrelated to their work.
