Hatta comes to the city of Dubai

Dubai, August 19/ WAM/ His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al -Tayer, Managing Director, CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, announced the start of experimental operation and the export of electricity from the electrical station with water power technology stored in Hatta to Dubai.

This came during a visit to His Excellency the project to see the progress of the workflow in the last stages, as the amount of energy produced during the last period exceeded the operational experiences of the station 17921 megawatts, and was accompanied by Eng. Nasser Lootah, CEO of the President for the Production Sector, and Eng. Khalifa Al -Badawi, project manager; And the project team.

His Excellency Saeed Al -Tayer stressed that the project comes to achieve the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai “may God bless him”, to achieve comprehensive and sustainable development throughout the Emirate of Dubai, and supports Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, and the carbon neutrality strategy 2050 for the Emirate of Dubai, with the aim of providing 100% of the total production capacity of energy in Dubai from clean energy sources by general solutions 2050.

According to a press release issued today, the productive capacity of the station will reach 250 megawatts and its storage capacity of 1,500 megawatts and a virtual life of up to 80 years, while the maximum rate of needs for the Hatta area of electricity is about 39 MW, and the surplus will be exported to Dubai.

His Excellency Al -Tayer also visited the electric power plant building that was created at a depth of 60 meters underground, and was seen on the mechanism of the main valves of the water in the station, which each weighs about 110 tons, while the control and control center visited the station and witnessed one of the operating experiments of the water pumping and power generation process.

The visit included the Al -Sadd Al -Alawi area, which was established by the authority within the project of the electrical station in Hatta, with a total area of the water surface of up to 210,000 square meters.

The dam consists of two walls of compressed concrete, and it includes a main wall with a height of 72 meters and a length of 225 meters, and a side wall with a height of 37 meters. The capacity of the upper dam is about 5.3 million cubic meters of water.

His Excellency Al -Tayer explained that the electrical station project in Hatta, whose investment value is about 1.42 billion dirhams, comes within the projects and initiatives of the authority to diversify the sources of production and storage of renewable and clean energy in Dubai, which include various available technologies, including photovoltaic and concentrated solar energy, and storing energy with batteries.

The project aims to generate electricity by taking advantage of the water stored in the Hatta Dam and Al -Alawi Dam.

The station relies on the water stored in the Hatta Dam and the Alawite Dam, where the water is pumped using advanced turbines that depend on clean energy from the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Complex, while the turbines operate in a reverse way to pump water to the upper dam to store energy, and then use it to generate electricity through the flow of water from the upper dam to the Hatta Dam through a water tunnel underground with a length of 1.2 km, and will reach the efficiency of a production and store system Electricity to 78.9%, with an immediate response to energy demand within 90 seconds.
