Guterres welcomes the creation of two new international mechanisms for artificial intelligence governance

In a statement attributed to the office of his spokesman, the Secretary -General of the United Nations said that it was established Independent International Scientific Committee on AI United Nations, andGlobal dialogue on artificial intelligence governanceAn important step forward in global efforts to harness the benefits of artificial intelligence, and dealing with its risks.

He added that this pioneering achievement confirms the commitment of member states to build on Global Digital Charter Approved as part of Future Charter In September 2024.

Guterres said that the global dialogue on the governance of artificial intelligence will provide a university platform within the United Nations and the relevant authorities to discuss critical issues related to artificial intelligence facing humanity today.

He stressed that the Independent International Scientific Committee on AI will be a vital bridge between the latest artificial intelligence and policy -making research.

He added that by providing accurate and independent scientific assessments, the committee will help the international community to anticipate emerging challenges and take studied decisions on how to manage this transformative technology.

The statement indicated that the Secretary -General’s intention will soon launch an open invitation to nominations for the scientific committee, whose annual reports in the global dialogue on the governance of artificial intelligence, scheduled for July 2026 in Geneva and 2027 in New York.

The Secretary -General called on all concerned authorities to support this historical initiative and contribute to building a future in which the artificial intelligence of all humanity is used.
