The number of foreign tourists to South Korea increased by 23% in July
On August 31 / WAM / The number of foreign tourists coming to South Korea jumped 23% on an annual basis in July.
The Korean Tourism Organization said today that the number of foreign tourists coming to the country reached 1.73 million, an increase of 23.1% compared to the same month last year.
This number represents an increase of 119.7% compared to July 2019 before the Korona pandemic.
According to citizenship, China ranked first with 34.7% (602 thousand visitors), followed by Japan by 17.3% (299 thousand visitors), Taiwan with 11.5% (199 thousand visitors), and the United States with 7.6% (131 thousand visitors) and Hong Kong by 3.7% (64 thousand visitors).
On the other hand, the number of South Korean citizens who traveled abroad last month reached 2.43 million, a decrease of 2.7% compared to the same month last year, which is equivalent to 92.2% of the level of the same month in 2019.
During the period from January to July of this year, the number of foreign visitors to South Korea increased by 15.9% from the same period in the previous year to 10.56 million, to exceed 10 million visitors, which represents 106.8% of the level of the same period in 2019.
The number of Koreans traveling abroad during the first seven months of this year reached 17 million, which represents 96.3% of the corresponding number during the same period in 2019.
