The UAE participates in the 116th session of the Arab Economic and Social Council in Cairo

Cairo, September 3 / WAM / The UAE participated in the work of the 116th session of the Arab Economic and Social Council, which was held at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in Cairo from August 31 to September 3, headed by the Republic of Tunisia, and in the presence of delegations represented by member states.

The meeting discussed the prospects for joint Arab cooperation in the economic and social fields, supporting sustainable development plans, and coordinating efforts in priority files at the regional and international levels.
His Excellency Abdullah Ahmed Al Saleh, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy and Tourism, who headed the delegation of the state participating in the meetings, stressed that the UAE, thanks to the directives of its rational leadership, is keen to contribute effectively to the formulation and implementation of economic and social initiatives that enhance the integration of Arab economies and support the well -being of Arab societies, indicating that this session represents an important station to coordinate positions and integrate efforts towards achieving comprehensive development of the Arab region.

His Excellency pointed out that the issues raised on the agenda keep pace with the priorities of the region in light of international changes, especially in the areas of facilitating intra -trade, promoting food and water security, developing the business and investment environment, supporting digital transformation, and empowering young people and women, in a way that achieves comprehensive development of Arab societies.
His Excellency Abdullah Al Saleh said that the UAE pays great attention to the file of developing Arab organizations and benefiting from them as experiences of experience providing member states with specialized knowledge and services, based on the decision adopted by the Council in its previous session by forming a team of specialized experts based on a working paper submitted by the UAE, with the aim of developing effective plans to enhance the efficiency of Arab organizations and raise their ability to support the priorities of development and joint Arab action.
The Council reviewed reports to follow up on the implementation of decisions issued by previous Arab courses and summits, see the progress made in the joint Arab economic and social files, and the implementation of priority projects and initiatives, as well as expanding the partnerships of Arab organizations with international and regional organizations.
On the economic level, the Council discussed the joint Arab economic work program for the next stage, including the removal of customs obstacles, the completion of the requirements of the Arab Customs Union, the activation of the Great Arab Free Trade Zone, in addition to discussing ways to develop transportation networks and logistical connection between Arab countries, and support and encourage entrepreneurship activities, through financing initiatives and joint Arab training programs.
On the social level, the Council reviewed a number of initiatives aimed at supporting public health programs, expanding the scope of educational initiatives aimed at developing future skills, and plans for cultural and media cooperation between member states to enhance the role of women and youth in the labor market, as the Arab Strategic Committee to empower people with special needs discussed in line with the sustainable development goals 2030.
