Ali Al -Hashemi’s choice as Chairman

Space 42, the leading Emirati company in the field of artificial intelligence -backed space technology, has announced the choice of Ali Al Hashemi, CEO of space services at the company, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the International Federation of Satellite Works (GSOA), the leading global body represented for this sector, to be the first Emirati to take over this position, praising his distinguished professional career in the field of satellite communications.
Promise stations in Al -Hashemi’s march
Al -Hashemi has served as Vice President of the Federation since 2023, and has more than 20 years of experience in the fields of communications, defense and space. In “Space 42”, he led major initiatives that included the launch of the “Thuraya-4” satellite in January 2025, and the launch of direct communication services between devices and satellites (D2D) in Africa. It also presides over the “Amok” maintenance, reform and Umrah Center, and it holds the membership of the Emirates Space Agency and the National Center for Space Science and Technology.
Before that, as the CEO of the “Yahsat” group before its merger to “Space 42”, he led the company’s successful inclusion in the Abu Dhabi Securities Market in 2021, and is the second largest public subscription in the history of the market, and also led the process of “Al -Thuraya” company after acquiring it in 2018.
Al -Hashemi had international recognition, as it was chosen by “Forbes Middle East” magazine in the list of the best 100 CEOs for the year 2023 and 2024, as he included it on the sustainability leaders list for 2023.

The importance of the union at the international level

The World Satellite Federation is the only international non -profit organization that represents the entire satellite system, as it is the first platform for cooperation in this sector at the international level. As a union led by the executive presidents of the sector’s companies, it leads efforts to address global challenges, seize new opportunities and provide a unified voice for the satellite sector.
The Federation is widely recognized as the representative of the satellite sector in front of international, regional and national bodies, including regulatory authorities, policy makers and standards setting bodies such as 3GPP 3G project, as well as international organizations such as the International Telecommunication Union and the World Economic Forum. The members of the Federation include about 70 entities that cover the entire industrial spectrum of satellite operators in the simultaneous and non -simultaneous orbit with the land, land monitoring moons, launching and manufacturing companies and ground infrastructure providers.
UAE leadership in the space sector
The UAE has established its place in a reliable global partner in the space sector, through large investments in the new generation of satellite communication technologies and geots. Through “Space 42”, the state strengthened its sovereign capabilities in the satellite sector, expanded the scope of direct communication services between industrial devices and satellites and established partnerships at the international level.
Research and development also have given a special priority, as well as preparing national competencies and rehabilitating a new generation of space scientists and engineers.
Moreover, the UAE was the first Arab country to launch a task to explore Mars, “The probe of hope”, and has also developed a growing program for astronauts that culminate in long -term tasks on board the International Space Station, which reflects the state’s ambition and executive ability.
The appointment of Ali Al -Hashemi is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the World Satellite Works Federation as an extension of this march, to put the UAE in the forefront of global dialogue on space, and strengthens its position as a regional power and a major shareholder in the satellite sector at the international level.
