Austria aspires to become a European center of green hydrogen

Vienna, September 17 / WAM / Wolfgang Hatmandorf, the Austrian Minister of Economy and Energy, announced the launch of a comprehensive initiative aimed at strengthening the position of Austria as a European green hydrogen center, by pumping and supporting investments in building electrical analysis stations, participating in the “Southern Corridor” pipeline project, and developing a national strategy to import hydrogen.

In his statements, Hatmandorver revealed the allocation of 20 million euros, to support the establishment of electrolysis stations, the development of the storage infrastructure and pipelines, and the hydrogen considered an economic project for the future, provides safe energy supplies, supports the industrial base and creates the ground to create job opportunities and open new markets, stressing the importance of using green hydrogen in the sectors of intense use of energy such as Petrochemicals and fertilizers.

Austria currently has electrical analysis stations with a capacity of 28 megawatts, which puts it in the ninth place in the world, and needs to import about two -thirds of its hydrogen needs, according to the estimates of the Ministry of Energy, which plans to depend a central dependence on the “southern hydrogen corridor”, as a central import road linking Central Europe to North Africa through Italy and Austria.
