20% of the newly registered cars in South Korea in August electricity

On September 21 / WAM / Data on Sunday showed that electric cars formed nearly 20% of the newly registered cars in South Korea in August, a record number after the major car manufacturers released new cars.

Of the 126,787 newly recorded cars in the country last month, the number of electric cars reached 23 thousand and 269, or 18.4%, according to the data collected by the Car Eas Yu to track the auto industry.

The share of electric cars from January to August was 12.7%, while that share reached 2.4% of the cars registered in 2020, then jumped to 9.8% in 2022, but it remained at about 9% since then due to the slowdown of the market.

It is widely expected that sales of electric car in South Korea will exceed the 200,000 cars barrier for the first time this year.

The number of newly registered electric cars from January to August reached 141,986 units, driven by the issuance of new cars by the company “Hyundai Motor” and “Kia”, along with international car companies such as “Mercedes-Benz AG” and “BMW”.
