Re -implementing Security Council resolutions regarding sanctions related to Iran’s nuclear program

Accordingly, the list of penalties run by the Security Council was reactivated. The list currently includes 43 individuals and 78 entities were included before adopting Resolution 2231.

This decision issued in 2015 – which confirmed the support of the joint comprehensive work plan related to the Iranian nuclear program and urged its implementation in full in accordance with the specified timetable – decided to end the work with the provisions of previous decisions* issued by the council.

On Friday, September 26, Russia and China submitted a draft resolution to extend the joint comprehensive work plan and Council Resolution 2231. He voted in favor of the draft resolution only 4 members, and 9 opposed it and two members abstained from the vote. Hence, he was not approved for not obtaining the sufficient number of voices.

The approval of the draft resolution was to delay the re -imposition of sanctions related to Iran for a period of 6 months until April 18, 2026. It means that it does not depend on the re -imposition of the sanctions that were previously lifted.

This comes a month after notifying three European countries – France, Germany and the United Kingdom – the Security Council of what it described as Iran’s violations in this regard, in order to re -impose the sanctions mechanism.
