Starting from tomorrow … blocking mobile devices on Emirates flights

Emirates Airlines has announced the start of the prohibition of using any type of mobile devices shipping units (Power Bank) on its flights from tomorrow, October 1, 2025. Emirates Airlines provides charging outlets in the seats on all its aircraft, but it recommends its customers to charge their devices completely before traveling, especially in long flights.
The mobile devices (Power Bank) is considered a rechargeable device, and is used to supply other electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets, laptops and cameras with energy. Emirates customers are allowed to carry only one shipping unit on the plane, according to specific conditions, but it is prohibited inside the plane’s cabin, whether to charge the devices from them or to recharge them using energy sources in the plane.
Emirates Special Airlines includes mobile devices charging units on board:
Customers can carry only one shipping unit with a capacity of 100 watts/hour.
It is prohibited to use mobile devices charging units to charge any personal device on board.
The delivery of charging units is prohibited to power sources inside the plane to charge them.
Each shipping unit must include clear information about its electrical capacity.
It is prohibited to place portable charging units in the upper cabinets inside the cabin, and they should be placed in the pocket of the seat or in a bag under the front seat.
It is prohibited to place mobile devices charging units in registered luggage, according to the current procedure.
Emirates Airlines takes a firm and anticipated position to reduce the risks related to the charging units of mobile devices on board, after a comprehensive review of safety procedures. Recent years have witnessed a significant increase in travelers’ use of these devices, which led to a high number of accidents associated with lithium batteries in the aviation sector in general.
Mobile devices are mainly operating with lithium -ion or lithium polymer batteries, which are rechargeable batteries designed to feed the devices on the move. These batteries contain lithium ions hanging in an electrolyte solution, and these ions move back and forth between the two poles during the shipping and discharge process. If the battery is exposed to excessive charging or damage, what is known as “thermal escape” may occur, which is an accelerated self -reaction that leads to a large and non -controlled high temperature, and may cause fires, explosions, or toxic gas emissions.
While most phones and advanced devices equipped with lithium batteries include internal protection systems to prevent excess charging, many low -quality mobile devices are not containing this feature, which increases the level of risk. All mobile devices shipping units are subject to new regulations on Emirates Airlines.
The new regulations adopted by Emirates Airlines aim to significantly reduce these risks by banning the use of mobile devices charging units while on board. Also, the requirement to place these units in easy -to -reach places inside the cabin allows the trained plane crew to intervene and control in the event of a fire.
