The UAE establishes its soft power with"Translation" And provides bridges of cultural communication with the world

Abu Dhabi, September 30/ WAM/ The UAE supports the global translation movement through strategic projects and cultural initiatives that made translation an essential pillar in the process of cognitive development.

The state succeeded, through its institutions and community initiatives, in transforming the translation into a tool to spread knowledge and enhance the position of the Arabic language globally, and at the same time a window to highlight the Arab culture of the world.

On September 30 of each year, the world celebrates the International Day of Translation, in honor of the role of translators in providing bridges of communication between peoples and enhancing understanding between cultures.

In this context, the UAE highlights a leading model in the Arab region through ambitious projects and initiatives that put it within its cultural and cognitive strategy, to make translation a basic pillar in the comprehensive development process.

Since its launch in 2007, the “Kalima” project for translation of the Abu Dhabi Center for the Arabic Language of the Department of Culture and Tourism in Abu Dhabi has succeeded in translating more than 1300 titles of 24 languages, in more than 10 cognitive categories, in cooperation with more than 800 translators and elite publishing houses.

This project comes within the center’s strategic directions in supporting translation, documenting cultural experiences, and enhancing the presence of Arab and international authors.

The center was able, through the “Perfume of Translation” project, to provide unique bridges between different cultures and present them with professionalism and specialization, to confirm its presence as one of the most prominent Arab and Emirati cultural bodies that work to commemorate thought and knowledge, provide human achievements and pass them to generations.

The center succeeded in translating the immortal creations that found its way to win the Nobel Prize; In order to enrich the Arab library with these literary achievements, whose creative cards exceeded the limits of place and language.

The selection and translation operations are carried out in a word project at the hands of professional experts in the interest of attending the Arabic language used to transfer the product of the world’s cultures, and benefit from its aesthetics and knowledge.

In a related context, the “Archives and the National Library” annually organizes the Fifth International Conference on Translation, and its fifth session was held last April under the slogan “New contexts in the era of artificial intelligence: technical challenges and future aspirations.”

The conference is a leading platform for the intersection of language, technology, and knowledge, and opens new horizons for the future of translation in the Arab world, and the Emirates website devotes a pivotal center in the production and localization of knowledge.

In 2017, the launch of the Mohammed bin Rashid Arab E -Education project, which included the “translation challenge”, was announced as the largest limit of its kind in the Arab world, seeking to translate 5,000 videos, by more than 11 million words within one year, in various subjects of science and mathematics, so that this content is Arabized and reproduced according to the finest standards adopted in international curricula, and is available for free for more than 50 million Arab students.

In the same year, the Sharjah Prize for Translation “Translation” was launched, with the aim of enhancing literary translation and encouraging the global publishing of translated works into Arabic, and contributing to activating the role of human civilization and strengthening ties between East and West through translation.

The award aims to enhance the presence of Arabic literature in the global cultural scene, and to encourage foreign publishing houses to translate the masterpieces of creativity and Arab thought into other languages, which contributes to building cultural and knowledge bridges between peoples.

The total value of the award is 1.4 million dirhams, and is granted for the best foreign translation of one of the Arabic works, which reflects the commitment of the “Sharjah Book Authority” and the “Sharjah International Book Fair” to consolidate the position of translation as a way to enhance human dialogue and civilized communication, and transfer Arab knowledge and creativity to the world.

The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation also announced in the year 2022 the establishment of the “Arab Translators Club”, with the aim of enriching the translation movement and setting new methodologies for it, attracting the largest number of Arab translators and providing a platform for exchanging visions and experiences in this field.

The efforts of the UAE and its various initiatives in the translation sector resulted in the establishment of a leading model in the region to consolidate the position of the Arabic language and highlight the Arab culture of the world.
