Ahmed bin Saeed opens the 11th World Summit for the Green Economy in Dubai

The opening speech to the summit was delivered by His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al -Tayer, Vice President of the Supreme Energy Council in Dubai, Managing Director, CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, President of the World Organization for Green Economy, in the presence of a group of ministers and senior officials, representatives of international organizations, experts and specialists in the fields of economy, energy and sustainability and more than 100 speakers from all over the world.
His Excellency pointed out that the summit comes as an extension of the leadership march pursued by the United Arab Emirates and its continuous efforts in global climate work, noting that the slogan of this year’s session of the summit is a road map for an inclusive and justice climate work that looks forward to future prospects.
He stressed that the real innovation is the main driver to develop effective and sustainable solutions to face the challenges of climate change and reach sustainable climate practices that look forward to the future and make it, pointing out that the summit reviews inspiring stories on how to harness innovation and artificial intelligence in monitoring emissions and predicting climate risk, and the role of the Internet of Things in improving resource consumption efficiency and reducing emissions Carbonism, enhance the ability to adapt to climate effects, and how huge data leads decisions.
Al -Tayer said: “With the directives of our wise leadership, the UAE ranked second in the world and the first regionally in the classification of the best countries in artificial intelligence for the year 2025, according to a recent report issued by the American company“ TRG ”specializing in the solutions of data centers and expected that the contribution of artificial intelligence in the UAE economy will reach about 350 billion dirhams by 2030, equivalent to 14% of the gross domestic product, This enhances the need to provide a strong, flexible and sustainable infrastructure .. Clean and renewable energy is gaining increasing importance as a basic pillar of the new global economy. In the first quarter of 2025, the global green economy size reached $ 7.9 trillion, recording revenues exceeding $ 5 trillion for the first time and this economy is expected to continue its growth at an annual complex rate of 15.6%, up to about about about 30 trillion dollars by 2033.
His Excellency explained that the investment in the transformation of low -carbon energy grew by 11 % to a record level of $ 2.1 trillion in 2024, according to specialized global reports and this global momentum reflects a clear trend towards promoting clean and renewable energy, as it is expected that the capacity of renewable energy generation will increase by 84 % during the next five years until 2030, with expectations that this capacity will double by 2050.
He added: “In Dubai, we were not only part of this transformation, but we were at the forefront, as we have exceeded the goals set, as the percentage of clean energy reached 21.5% of the total power mix and today we celebrate the ten -year anniversary of launching the first project of the independent energy product system in the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Energy Complex, the largest solar energy complex in one location in the world, and the complex is a leading global model that confirms our commitment By reaching carbon neutrality by 2050 and we are pleased to announce that by 2030, the productive capacity of the complex will reach more than 8,000 megawatts, as the original scheme was 5,000 megawatts, and reduce carbon emissions by more than 8.5 million tons annually, and thus the clean energy ratio will reach 36%, knowing that the original scheme was 25% and thanks to our adoption of modern technologies such as Artificial intelligence and sun tracking techniques, we succeeded in doubling the efficiency of the photovoltaic panels in the complex projects from 11% to 24%, which increased production without the need for additional spaces .. The area required to produce 100 megawatts from 2 km² has shrunk to 1 km² only, which confirms the pivotal role of innovation in accelerating the shift towards a sustainable future.
His Excellency Al -Tayer pointed out that the impact of innovation extends to the field of energy storage, which is one of the basic elements of the stability of electricity networks based on renewable sources and in Dubai, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority keeps pace with this trend through the fourth stage of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Energy Complex, which is characterized by the largest storage capacity of the thermal energy in the world, and the seventh stage of the complex, whose production capacity will reach 2000 megawatts with cell technology PVs and will include a 1400 -megawatt battery storage system for 6 hours.
His Excellency said: “The acceleration of the shift towards sustainable energy requires an integrated financing system and sustainable financing witnesses significant growth worldwide through tools such as green bonds, mixed financing and investments that support climate goals and this leads us to talk about climate adaptation and flexibility, as it is one of the basic priorities in the next stage, some of the effects of climate change have become a reality, and the challenge lies in the extent Our readiness to deal effectively with it .. The answer lies in creating early warning systems, and taking advantage of natural solutions inspired by environmental systems, and investing in a flexible infrastructure capable of adapting to the variables, but who are the makers of real change and tomorrow’s channels? Climate friendly techniques and our responsibility as institutions, societies and countries of their empowerment and help them harness their creative energies to make a better future, more sustainable, comprehensive and fair. “
He added, “Thanks to the vision and directives of our rational leadership, the UAE leads the transformation into a sustainable green economy through leading institutions and platforms such as the World Organization for Green Economy, and the organization, which includes 91 countries in its membership, has succeeded in mobilizing the efforts of governments, the private sector, academic institutions and international organizations to advance the projects of the green economy. His Excellency Sauli Nenesto, the former President of the Republic of Finland, delivered a speech in which he said: “Finland’s journey towards sustainability is closely related. Finland has set an ambitious goal of reaching carbon neutrality by 2035, stressing that international cooperation is the way to pay the green economy agenda, while the seven pillars of the Green Economy Summit are 2025 integrated frameworks, where it allows Innovation finding solutions, policies and financing provides expansion tools, while justice, flexibility and youth participation guarantees that these solutions be fair, comprehensive and directed towards the future.
He added: “We have to deal with the shift towards the green economy as an investment in our common and important future before us is to enhance prosperity without draining the foundations on which our well -being is based, and this requires close partnerships between governments, the private sector and civil society, in addition to confidence in open markets, while directing them according to clear rules and frameworks, as well as investing in scientific research and innovation.”
In a major speech, His Excellency Dr. Amna Bint Abdullah Al -Dahhak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, indicated that to achieve a sustainable and comprehensive future, we must rethink our current economic system and adopt climate friendly solutions that enhance long -term economic growth, and this is the essence of the 2050 climate neutral strategy of the UAE, which is a comprehensive work plan at the state level to advance the process of reducing carbon emissions in the economy. The UAE approach brings together climate ambition and development vision, from building the largest solar energy plants in the world, to leadership in peaceful nuclear energy at the Baraka station, and converting millions of tons of waste into clean energy in “Warsan Station to convert waste to energy”, the state continues its path in clean energy, while creating new economic opportunities at the same time.
Her Excellency indicated that our vision of a sustainable future can be achieved except through an approach that includes the entire society, by encouraging sustainable practices at the local level, and preparing a new generation of climate work leaders, as societal initiatives are the real engine of actual change, and the mobilization of efforts and sectors must be completed with unifying endeavors at the global level.
His Excellency Amna Al -Dahhak explained that the “Global Alliance for Green Economy” is a strong platform to accelerate the shift towards the green economy, through the exchange of knowledge and best practices and the promotion of partnerships, we can enable countries to implement their nationally defined contributions and build a more sustainable and comprehensive global economy.
In a speech entitled: “From Twitter to Change,” Sheikha Dr. Shamma bint Mohammed bin Khaled Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sheikh Mohammed bin Khaled Al Nahyan Cultural and Educational Institutions, spoke about the role of youth and social media platforms in combating climate and environmental changes around the world, as young people became more aware and effective through digital platforms, noting that a survey of the Arab Youth Council for Climate Change in 2008 explained that the percentage of Arab youth interested in climate issues 11% while in their latest study, this percentage increased to 68%.
She said: “In the heart of Abu Dhabi, the Crimea’s forests stand as a witness to the beauty of nature and their giving these forests were not just trees … Rather, it was a shield that protects the coasts, and a house that houses birds and creatures, but they, like many environmental wealth, faced the risk of decline due to the expansion and human pressure. His Excellency Eng. Muhammad Al -Mansoori, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure for Infrastructure and Transport Affairs, confirmed in a speech on behalf of His Excellency Suhail bin Muhammad Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, that the global summit of green economy 2025 represents a pivotal platform for unifying global visions, and enhancing cooperation between governments, international institutions and the private sector in order to build a more sustainable future for future generations.
His Excellency explained that the holding of the summit in the UAE reflects its position as a global center for dialogue on climate and sustainability issues, and represents a laboratory for innovation in formulating solutions that achieve a balance between the requirements of development and environmental protection.
He pointed out that the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure contributes effectively to this trend by developing a flexible and sustainable infrastructure, launching qualitative initiatives that support reducing emissions and enhancing resource efficiency, as well as adopting international best practices in planning and implementing national projects in line with the state’s targets of climate neutrality and enhancing the quality of life.
