Cooperation between "Energy and infrastructure" and"Mohammed bin Rashid Space" To develop smart solutions for maritime navigation

Dubai, October 14 / WAM / The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, represented by the National Maritime Center (NMC) and the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre, yesterday signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at developing technical and scientific cooperation in the fields of smart systems, satellite technologies and remote sensing, which contributes to strengthening the maritime surveillance system, improving the efficiency of maritime traffic management and ensuring maritime security and safety in the country.
The memorandum was signed on behalf of the Ministry by His Excellency Engineer Mohammed Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Undersecretary for Infrastructure and Transport Affairs, and on behalf of the Center by His Excellency Salem Humaid Al Marri, Director General of the Centre, on the sidelines of the activities of the GITEX Global 2025 exhibition.
The memorandum comes as part of efforts to enhance national integration between the space and maritime sectors, with the aim of employing space technologies to support maritime surveillance operations, track ship movement, and monitor environmental phenomena in the country’s territorial waters, through the use of satellite images and remote sensing data.
The memorandum seeks to develop smart analysis systems and unified digital platforms that combine space data and navigational information in real time, allowing decision makers to analyze risks, identify operational patterns, and enhance the speed of response to maritime emergencies.
The memorandum stipulates the exchange of technical and scientific expertise between the two sides, and the training and qualification of national cadres in the fields of space data analysis, navigational systems engineering, and applied artificial intelligence. A joint work team will also be formed to coordinate future projects, follow up on the implementation of the terms of the memorandum, and ensure the integration of digital systems between the two sides.
Areas of cooperation between the two parties also include developing satellite image analysis algorithms to monitor ships and coastal changes, and establishing an integrated digital infrastructure that links space monitoring data with operational information for ports and maritime centers, which contributes to supporting the state’s plans to enhance maritime security and environmental sustainability.
The memorandum is expected to contribute to achieving integration between national efforts in the space and navigation sectors, thus enhancing the government’s digital transformation strategy, in addition to supporting the country’s position as a world-leading maritime and space power.
His Excellency Engineer Mohammed Ibrahim Al Mansouri said, on this occasion, that the signing of the memorandum of understanding represents a strategic step that enhances the ministry’s orientations towards employing modern technology in the service of infrastructure, especially the maritime sector. This partnership reflects the ministry’s vision aimed at building an integrated maritime transportation and navigation system based on space technologies and artificial intelligence, and supports the country’s position as a global destination for maritime excellence.
He stressed that cooperation with the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center will open new horizons for creating digital solutions that enhance the efficiency of maritime security and safety and support sustainability in this vital sector.
For his part, His Excellency Salem Humaid Al Marri stressed that signing the memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure represents an important step towards expanding the areas of application of space technology in serving the vital sectors of the country.
He said that the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center believes in the importance of harnessing its technical capabilities and expertise in the fields of satellites and remote sensing to support the government work system and develop innovative solutions that contribute to enhancing the efficiency and sustainability of various sectors.
He added that cooperation with the National Maritime Center is a translation of the UAE’s vision to employ advanced technologies and integrate national capabilities, in a way that enhances maritime security, preserves natural resources, and supports the country’s position as a leading center in the fields of space and technical innovation.
