The African Union suspends Madagascar’s membership with immediate effect


The African Union on Wednesday suspended the membership of Madagascarin its institutions "With immediate effect"according to what the head of its commissioner, the agency, announced, the day after the army seized power and overthrew President Andry Rajoelina.

A special unit in the Madagascar army, led by Colonel Mikael Randrianirina, announced on Tuesday that it had seized Power, immediately after the National Assembly’s decision to dismiss President Rajoelina, who is believed to have left the country.

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssef, said that "Madagascar’s membership has been suspended with immediate effect".
