The launch of the 13th session of the Gulf Heritage and Oral History Conference in Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI, 16th October / WAM / The activities of the thirteenth session of the Gulf Conference on Heritage and Oral History, organized by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, began today over two days, at the Theater of the Cultural Foundation – Abu Dhabi, under the slogan “Shared Gulf Social Practices: Traditions that Unite Us and Horizons that Inspire Us.”

The conference brings together an elite group of experts, academics and researchers in the fields of heritage and sociology from the Gulf Cooperation Council, and provides a platform for exchanging ideas and inspiring experiences that shed light on social practices rooted in the traditions and culture of the single Arab Gulf society, and highlight the importance of heritage and its role in consolidating the values ​​of the common Arab Gulf identity.

His Excellency Saud Abdulaziz Al Hosani, Undersecretary of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, said that the Gulf Conference for Heritage and Oral History is a vital platform that enhances the efforts of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi in preserving, protecting, and strengthening our common social heritage in the Arab Gulf countries. It is an essential pillar of our collective identity, and it reflects our keenness to inspire current and future generations with the importance of connection to authenticity and innovation, and through it we seek to exploit what it abounds in. Cultural heritage has common components, especially traditional crafts and industries, social practices, performing and expression arts, and popular literature, to ensure the preservation of the heritage of fathers and grandfathers.

The organization of the conference reflects the pioneering role played by the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in promoting joint Gulf-Arab cooperation to preserve and preserve intangible cultural heritage, and highlighting its contribution to consolidating the common national identity and supporting the system of sustainable cultural development in the Gulf Cooperation Council.

The conference aims to highlight the role of social practices in consolidating the common Gulf-Arab identity, enhancing the values ​​of cooperation and solidarity, and exploring innovative means of balancing between preserving authenticity and keeping pace with the requirements of contemporary culture, in a way that ensures the continuity of social heritage and its transmission to future generations.

The conference highlights the role of Gulf women throughout the ages in preserving traditions and social practices and transmitting them between generations, and highlighting their effective participation in efforts to preserve, develop and sustain cultural heritage.

The conference addresses several topics: social practices in Arab Gulf societies between common roots and local diversity, events, celebrations, and performing arts and their role in consolidating social cohesion and enhancing common identity, practices related to traditional crafts and professions: an ancient legacy and renewed innovation, women and Gulf social practices: historical roles and contemporary visions, and social practices in the era of digitalization and globalization: Challenges and opportunities; The Year of Society 2025: Social practices are a pillar of empowerment and community participation in the United Arab Emirates.

The conference also highlights the common aspects of intangible cultural heritage in the Arab Gulf countries, and ways to preserve and utilize it to enhance culture and societal identity, and link current and future generations to the cultural heritage of parents and grandparents, ensuring the sustainability of this cultural wealth within the framework of comprehensive cultural development and sustainability plans that fulfill the hopes of these communities for a promising tomorrow of development and prosperity.
