The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) announced today, Thursday, that more than one million tickets have been sold for the 2026 World Cup, following the end of the pre-sale phase organized by Visa Card Company.
FIFA added in a statement that fans from 212 countries and territories participated in purchasing tickets during the pre-sale period that began in mid-September.
Residents of the three host countries, the United States, Canada and Mexico, topped the list of applications, followed by England, Germany, Brazil, Spain, Colombia, Argentina and France.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino said: “What an exciting achievement on our way to the 2026 World Cup.”
“Today, we celebrate exceeding the barrier of one million tickets after pre-sale through Visa cards, which is wonderful evidence that the most ambitious and comprehensive World Cup in FIFA’s history arouses tremendous global enthusiasm.”
So far, 28 teams have qualified for the tournament, which will be the first to witness the participation of 48 teams and hold 104 matches in 16 cities in the three host countries.
FIFA said that the first phase of general sales will begin on October 27, when tickets for individual matches will be offered in addition to special packages for stadiums and teams.
An official ticket resale platform has also been launched to protect fans from invalid or unauthorized resales.
The 2026 World Cup will be held in stadiums in the United States, Canada and Mexico, which is the first time that three countries will host the tournament.
