Smart Pass checks and renews vehicles in Dubai within 15 seconds

During its participation in the “GITEX Global 2025” exhibition, the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai revealed the “AutoCheck360” project, which is an integrated smart system designed to make a qualitative shift in the inspection process for renewing vehicles in the emirate, by integrating artificial intelligence and Internet of Things technologies, which enables customers to complete the inspection process to renew the vehicle from 17 minutes to 15 minutes. Just a second, and without any human intervention from examiners, or an increase in examination fees, in a step that supports the shift towards fully self-service and smart services.
The authority explained that the new system aims to improve the customer experience and facilitate vehicle renewal procedures by reducing inspection time and raising the level of accuracy, ensuring the safety and efficiency of more than 2.3 million vehicles registered in Dubai. The service is expected to be launched and circulated in all examination centers in the emirate during the third quarter of 2026, after completing the ongoing trial phase and analyzing its operational results.
In detail, Musaed Al Hammadi, Director of the Licensing Systems Department at the Licensing Agency at the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai, said: “At the Authority, we believe that vehicle safety is the basis of road safety, and from this standpoint, the automated vehicle inspection system (AutoCheck360) comes as a model of government innovation and proactiveness in applying artificial intelligence technologies in operational services. The system relies on computer vision and the Internet of Things to reduce human errors and unify inspection standards with unprecedented accuracy, which contributes to raising the efficiency of the service, improving the customer journey, and enhancing traffic safety in the Emirate of Dubai.”
Al Hammadi added to Emirates Today that the project has entered the trial phase since the second quarter of 2025, and is actually being implemented in the Wasel Al Jaddaf Center, indicating that at the end of this year the operational data of the system will be analyzed, in preparation for disseminating it to the rest of the examination centers, which number about 29 centers throughout the emirate.
He explained that the system relies on a smart inspection corridor equipped with the latest technologies, including an external scanning device that includes 16 cameras that capture more than 4,000 images of the vehicle from all angles, in addition to a bottom scanning device and a side tire scanner, all of which work through sensors, lasers and cameras supported by artificial intelligence, to provide a comprehensive assessment of the vehicle’s condition within a few seconds.
He pointed out that the system relies on nine main standards for technical inspection, including more than 200 detailed standards, and work is underway to fully automate them, using data analysis and artificial intelligence techniques to unify standards and achieve the highest levels of accuracy and reliability.
He stated that there are six characteristics and advantages of the new system, including “reducing human errors through accurate artificial intelligence analyses, comprehensive automation of the largest number of service touchpoints, enhancing safety and protecting employees and customers by reducing human intervention in dangerous areas, complete compatibility with the Roads and Transport Authority’s strategy for digital transformation and artificial intelligence, and enhancing road safety through accurate and consistent inspection processes.” “And support data-based decision-making to enhance vehicle safety and sustainable infrastructure planning.”
During its participation, the Authority will review a package of projects and initiatives that embody its leadership in adopting the latest technologies in artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and predictive solutions, most notably “the smart vehicle network, the smart transportation platform for safe cities, the smart traffic solutions platform, the safe railway system, the trackless tram, the Dubai Mobility Laboratory, the air taxi, and the interactive kiosks. And the authority’s digital channels, and the artificial intelligence factory.”
The projects reviewed by the Authority represent a qualitative leap in the process of digital transformation, and include applications of artificial intelligence, predictive solutions based on big data analysis, and the use of the Internet of Things in asset and infrastructure management. The Authority also seeks to communicate with strategic partners and learn about the latest global innovations, in a way that enhances its ability to innovate future solutions in the transport and mobility sector.
