Dubai Police rescues a driver whose cruise control malfunctioned on Emirates Road

Dubai Police traffic patrols rescued the driver of a vehicle whose cruise control had malfunctioned while she was traveling on Emirates Road towards Abu Dhabi. The specialized teams intervened within minutes of receiving the report, which contributed to sparing the driver and road users the risk of a serious traffic accident.

Director of the General Traffic Department at Dubai Police, Brigadier General Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, explained that traffic patrols moved immediately to the location of the report, and the vehicle was secured by creating a safe lane in front of and behind it, while keeping other vehicles out of its path to avoid any potential collision. Thanks to tight coordination and calm handling, the driver was able to stop the vehicle safely on the side of the road.

He stressed the importance of drivers remaining completely calm when faced with a problem with the cruise control, fastening their seat belts, turning on the four-way warning lights and headlights, and immediately contacting the emergency number “999.” He said: It is recommended to try to reduce the speed by continuously and gradually pressing the brakes, or shifting the transmission to the neutral “N” position. If these attempts do not succeed, the handbrake can be gradually lifted while holding the steering wheel tightly. If the failure persists, the transmission can be moved between the “N” and “D” positions several times to try to reduce the speed.
