An Italian state of emergency… recording the lowest birth rate ever in 2025

Show The Italian National Bureau of Statistics today reported that the country is on track to record a new decline in The number of births this year reached the lowest level ever, which exacerbates the demographic crisis in the country.

The office reported that the decline trend continued in the first seven months of 2025, with 198,000 new births recorded, a decrease of 6.3 percent over the same period in 2024.

Last year witnessed the registration of 370,000 births, the lowest number since the unification of Italy. In 1861, Italy’s long-declining birth rate represented a national emergency.
