The President of Peru declares a state of emergency in Lima to confront a wave of violence

Peru’s interim president, José Giri, announced in an address to the nation on Tuesday, the Emergencyin the capital Limaand the neighboring city of Callao, in an exceptional measure that will last a month and aims to confront a wave of violence that the authorities attribute to organized crime.
Jiri said in a speech broadcast on state television that "The state of emergency approved by the Council of Ministers will enter into force at midnight (5:00 GMT Wednesday) for 30 days in Greater Lima and Callao.".
