Expectations of direct talks between Israel and Lebanon within days

The Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported on Saturday, citing two informed sources, that Israel and Lebanon are expected to hold direct talks in the coming days, in the first discussions of their kind since the start of the war with Iran, which plunged Lebanon more broadly into the furnace of this conflict.

The newspaper said that Jared Kushner, son-in-law of US President Donald Trump, will participate in these talks, which may be held in Paris or in Cyprus, while the Israeli delegation will be headed by Ron Dermer, who is close to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The newspaper added that the negotiations are expected to focus on ending the fighting in Lebanon and disarming Hezbollah.

Hezbollah launched attacks on Israel on March 2 in response to the killing of the Iranian Supreme Leader at the beginning of the US-Israeli war on Iran.
Since then, Israel has launched a massive bombing campaign against the group, killing more than 770 people and displacing hundreds of thousands, while Hezbollah launched hundreds of rockets across the border.
