Amid trade tensions… a European plan to end dependence on Chinese metals

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said at a conference "Berlin Global Dialog" Held in the German capital "Our response must be proportionate to the dangers we face in this area, so I can announce that we are working on a new plan similar to the initiative that helped us overcome the energy crisis together after Russian President Vladimir Putin cut off our supply of Russian fossil fuels.".

After plan "Repower EU" Proposed by the European Commission in May 2022, a few months after the war between Russia and Ukraine, with the aim of dispensing with Russian fossil fuels, it is now preparing a plan called "Resource EU".
Von der Leyen explained that "The goal is to ensure that our European industry has access to alternative sources of essential raw materials in the short, medium and long term"
She said that one of the most prominent points included in the plan will be recycling, pointing out that "Some companies are able to recycle up to 95% of basic raw materials and batteries"

She continued that the European Union will also focus on "Production and processing of raw materials" And residence "Partnerships in this field with countries such as Ukraine, Australia, Canada, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Chile and Greenland."which means diversifying its import sources across the world.
Von der Leyen acknowledged that Europe "She can no longer do things the same way. We have learned this painful lesson on the energy front, and we will not repeat it on raw materials".
She reminded that the Commission "In recent days, it has tried to find solutions with Chinese representatives in Brussels, and is working with its partners in the G7 to reach a coordinated response.".
