conference "Emirates Thoracic Medicine and Surgery" He releases "Research and Innovation Award"

Dubai, 26 October / WAM / The thirteenth annual conference of the Emirates Thoracic Society (ETS 2025), at the conclusion of its activities today in Dubai, launched the “Research and Innovation Award”, which aims to consolidate the UAE’s position as a global center for pulmonary medicine, and encourage applied research and distinguished clinical initiatives in the field of lung diseases.
The conference – which lasted for two days – was attended by an elite group of health leaders and international experts, in its largest session in terms of the number of participants, the diversity of scientific topics, and the richness of research papers.
The conference activities witnessed the participation of more than 50 experts and speakers from 20 countries, representing the most prominent international universities and research centers, during which they discussed the latest medical findings in the fields of respiratory diseases and thoracic medicine and surgery, most notably asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pulmonary fibrosis, pleuritic diseases, lung transplantation, sleep medicine, and home respiratory care.
The conference sessions reviewed the increasing role of artificial intelligence in diagnosing lung diseases and monitoring chronic conditions, and modern trends in biological treatments and precision medicine.
Professor Ashraf Hassan Humaidan Al Zaabi, President of the Emirates Society of Thoracic Medicine and Surgery, confirmed that this session represented a qualitative leap in the course of the conference in content and organization, indicating that the Society is working to transform academic knowledge into preventive policies and modern clinical practices that contribute to enhancing community health.
He added that the UAE has today become a leading regional and global center in the field of pulmonary medicine and thoracic surgery, thanks to its leadership’s support for continuing medical education programs and the development of national competencies.
Al Zaabi stressed that the Emirates Society of Thoracic Medicine and Thoracic Surgery Award for Research and Innovation will be an annual platform to honor young scientists and researchers who contribute to the development of respiratory care and provide practical solutions to improve the quality of life of patients.
The conference witnessed the signing of a strategic cooperation agreement between the association and Sanofi Medical Company, to enhance national awareness of chronic respiratory diseases and expand the scope of early detection and health education, in a step consistent with the “UAE Vision 2031” towards a sustainable healthy society based on prevention and innovation.
The scientific sessions included field research presentations presented by doctors and researchers from inside and outside the country, on the latest methods in early diagnosis, dealing with respiratory infections, and preventing long-term complications, while the events concluded with a ceremony honoring the participating speakers and experts from various countries, in appreciation of their contributions to enriching scientific dialogue and exchanging experiences.
The conference recommended the need to strengthen early detection programs for respiratory diseases within the primary care system, adopt the latest biological and drug treatments directed to suit the nature of each patient, develop the smart home respiratory care system, and expand digital follow-up services for chronic patients.
He called for the establishment of a national database for chest diseases to support future health research and policies, and to support Emirati cadres through fellowship programs and continuous training in subspecialty centers.
