Mayor of Gaborone: We are seeking investments in waste treatment

DUBAI, 29 October / WAM / Orabili Motlaleng, Mayor of the City of Gaborone in the Republic of Botswana, confirmed that participation in the “Asia-Pacific Cities Summit and Mayors Forum 2025” in Dubai represented an important opportunity to showcase investment opportunities in his country, revealing great interest from investors in coming to Botswana.
In a statement to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, on the sidelines of the summit that concluded today, Motlaleng explained that Gaborone is particularly seeking to attract investment in the “waste treatment” sector, noting that Botswana has set targets to enhance the investment sector by developing road infrastructure and enacting laws for an attractive investment environment.
The Mayor reviewed Gaborone’s preparations to host the “2026 World Athletics Relay Races”, scheduled to be held on May 2 and 3, 2026, noting that the International Association of Athletics Federations’ selection of his city represents an important step to strengthen its position in hosting events and encourage investment.
The Mayor of Gaborone praised the role of the Dubai Summit as an effective platform for reviewing successful experiences, building partnerships, and benefiting from relations with officials, stressing that Dubai has a large number of people interested in investment, whom he met during his participation in reviewing the cultural and tourism components of his country.
