"Sharjah culture" The tenth edition of the Mafraq Arab Poetry Festival concludes

Irbid, 31st October / WAM / The Mafraq Arab Poetry Festival concluded its tenth session yesterday evening, marking a new chapter in the Diwan Al Arab, after completing a decade of its founding under the generous patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.

The festival was organized over four days at the National Library in the capital, Amman, in cooperation between the Department of Culture in Sharjah and the Jordanian Ministry of Culture, with the participation of 30 male and female poets from Jordan and various Arab countries.

The closing ceremony was attended by His Excellency Abdullah bin Muhammad Al Owais, Chairman of the Department of Culture in Sharjah, Muhammad Ibrahim Al Qaseer, Director of the Department of Cultural Affairs in the Department, Dr. Sultan Al Zaghul, Director of the Irbid Culture Directorate, and Faisal Al Sarhan, Director of the House of Poetry, along with an elite group of intellectuals, writers, academics and students.

In his speech during the closing ceremony, Dr. Sultan Al-Zaghoul stressed that poetry houses in the Arab world continue to perform their pioneering role played by Sharjah, under the directives of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, in preserving the Arab and Islamic cultural identity and supporting the Arab poetic scene by highlighting the creativity of Arab poets that elevate the Arab poetic reality and contribute to its enrichment.

Al-Zaghoul pointed out that the festival, whose activities concluded at the Irbid Cultural Center after its launch in Amman, embodies the interaction of the poetic movement between the capital and Irbid Governorate, which enhances the development of the literary scene and moves it steps forward.

He pointed out that the House of Poetry in Mafraq, which is one of the first poetry houses that His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah directed to establish in the Arab world, has presented, over its years, new poetic voices that have added to the Arab creative scene and has achieved, through its evenings and periodic festivals, many of its goals in highlighting the development of Arabic poetry and embracing young poetic voices.

He stressed that the festival attracted distinguished poetic voices who presented themselves with strength and enthusiasm to take their rightful place in the Arab poetic arena through sentimental and patriotic poems that highlighted the aesthetics of the language and the role of poetry in preserving the nation’s cultural identity.

The poetry readings were distinguished by the diversity of their topics and their richness with intense poetic images and deep language, combining the emotional, humanitarian and patriotic senses, presenting a vibrant creative palette that reflected the diversity of poetic experiences and visions amid great interaction from the audience.

Poets and intellectuals celebrated ten sessions since the launch of the Poetry House in Mafraq, stressing the pioneering role of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah in sponsoring Arab culture, pointing out that the Poetry Houses initiative has become vibrant spaces that celebrate poetry and establish its presence in the Arab cultural scene.
