"Emirates Copyright Management" Participates in a conference in Singapore

Sharjah, 31 October / WAM / The Emirates Copyright Management Association participated in the work of the World Congress of the International Federation of Copyright Organizations (IFRRO) in Singapore.

During the conference, the Society signed two bilateral agreements with copyright organizations in New Zealand (Copyright Licensing CLNZ) and Australia (Copyright Agency CA) with the aim of expanding the scope of cooperation, exchanging experiences, and enhancing copyright protection for creative works issued in the UAE at the international level.

The signing of the two agreements represents an important step towards expanding the umbrella of legal protection for creative works beyond national borders, providing writers, publishers and universities in the country greater opportunities for safe access to global markets and at the same time ensuring respect for their material and moral rights in digital and educational environments.

Majd Al Shehhi, Director of the Emirates Copyright Management Association, confirmed that the agreements are an important strategic step towards expanding the scope of protection for creative works outside the country. They also reflect the Association’s keenness to enable Emirati and Arab creators to participate effectively in the global creative economy and protect their intellectual output in an accelerating digital world and a changing educational environment. We believe that building a strong international partnership network is the path towards a more sustainable creative system.

She added that these endeavors come within the association’s vision to be a leading model in intellectual rights management in the region by providing legal licenses that contribute to enabling writers, publishers, and educational institutions to exchange knowledge legally, fairly, and sustainably.

She noted that the partnerships come within the association’s commitment to building an integrated rights management system that combines transparency, justice and international cooperation based on the best global practices it adopts through its membership in the International Federation of Copyright Organizations (IFRRO) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

For his part, Advisor Dr. Muhammad Mahmoud Al Kamali, a member of the Association’s Board of Directors, noted that the agreements represent a qualitative leap in the Association’s journey and reflect the international confidence that the UAE enjoys in protecting copyrights. He explained that international cooperation in the field of copyright management has become necessary to ensure integration between legal systems and the exchange of global experiences in protecting the rights of authors and publishers. He stressed that the Association continues to expand its network of international relations in a way that supports the UAE’s vision in promoting the creative economy and making the protection of intellectual property rights a pillar of sustainable cultural development.
