The timer method…the magic solution to deal with your impulsive child!

An impulsive child is known to be impatient, does not understand other people’s circumstances, and believes that everyone is there to fulfill his requests. Over time, if this behavior is not treated, he becomes a difficult person to deal with, tense, and interrupts others in conversation without respect for their role or feelings.
Abdullah explains that the timer method is based on training the child’s brain to wait by setting a specific time before implementing his request. It is preferable to start with only 30 seconds, then increase it gradually, which enhances the child’s ability to self-control and think before acting or speaking.
Experts advise continuing to apply the method without mocking the child or comparing him to others, with the possibility of using a timer on the phone or the mother’s wristwatch to set the time out of the child’s sight, so that he does not feel embarrassed or sad.
Additional advice provided by Abdullah:
• It is necessary to allow the child to leave the house daily, because permanent stay between walls increases nervousness and stubbornness.
• Avoid excessive pampering, especially with the first child, because it creates a feeling of dominance and selfishness.
• Watch out for emotional neglect, as lack of attention leads to results similar to excessive pampering, as the child suffers from anger and jealousy.
The educational guide concludes by stressing that the balance between love and discipline is the basis for raising a child who is able to wait, think, and respect others.
