The President discusses bilateral relations with the Chairman of the US National Energy Council

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him, received today Doug Burgum, Minister of the Interior, Chairman of the National Energy Council of the United States of America, who is visiting the country to participate in the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC 2025), which will be held from the 3rd to the 6th of this month of November.

During the meeting – which took place at Al Shati Palace in Abu Dhabi – His Highness discussed with the American Minister the growing bilateral relations between the two countries, especially in the sectors of energy, artificial intelligence and innovation, and ways to enhance them in order to achieve their mutual interests.

During the meeting, His Highness also witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the UAE and the United States regarding cooperation in the field of energy and artificial intelligence to support industrial competitiveness and economic flexibility.

The memorandum – between the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology and the National Energy Council of the United States of America – aims to enhance bilateral cooperation in areas that would contribute to achieving integration between developing artificial intelligence solutions and tools and using them responsibly to enhance the energy system and develop manufacturing capabilities, in a way that supports building a flexible economy and sustainable industrial transformation, and enabling national economic security.

The memorandum was signed by Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, Managing Director and CEO of ADNOC and its group of companies, on behalf of the UAE government, and on the American side, Doug Burgum, Chairman of the National Energy Council.

Dr. Sultan Al Jaber said on this occasion, “This cooperation comes in line with the leadership’s vision of building quality global partnerships in various sectors, and confirms the shared vision of the UAE and the United States towards promoting technological progress and benefiting from advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, based on the two countries’ well-established relationship in the fields of energy and artificial intelligence. This cooperation also confirms the UAE’s firm commitment to employing its expertise in the field of energy to build an advanced knowledge-based economy.”

He added: “The UAE and the United States are cooperating to develop smarter and more flexible energy systems capable of meeting the increasing requirements of the era of artificial intelligence, and contributing to supporting sustainable growth and ensuring the strength and durability of the economy and energy security. He pointed out that this cooperation will also contribute to upgrading the high-tech manufacturing sector, strengthening supply chains, and establishing the necessary infrastructure to build a competitive economy capable of keeping pace with the future, and supporting the goals of the ‘Make in the UAE’ initiative.”

For his part, Doug Burgum said: “Under the leadership of US President Donald Trump, the US energy sector is benefiting from artificial intelligence to modernize infrastructure, improve energy systems and significantly increase their production to meet growing demand. The cooperation between the United States and the UAE comes to reinforce the firm commitment expressed by President Trump during his visit to the UAE earlier this year, where we can consolidate our leading global position in technological and energy innovation, and preserve our national economic and security interests for future generations.”

Under the memorandum of understanding, the UAE and the United States will cooperate in a number of vital areas, including: strengthening advanced industrial capabilities and smart manufacturing technologies capable of keeping pace with the future and contributing to the implementation of a qualitative shift in industrial processes, production planning and logistics services, in a way that supports competitiveness and flexibility in the long term by taking advantage of the capabilities of artificial intelligence and energy optimization, smart grid management and predictive maintenance and improving energy storage systems and their efficiency… in addition to applications of artificial intelligence in robotics, materials engineering and automation, and mechanisms for facilitating technical and research cooperation, knowledge exchange, skills development and capacity building from During leadership and specialized training programs.

The memorandum of understanding falls within the UAE’s efforts to strengthen its position as a global center for industry and advanced technology, in line with the objectives of the National Strategy for Industry and Advanced Technology.

The meeting was attended by: His Highness Sheikh Theyab bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chief of the Presidential Court for Development Affairs, the families of the martyrs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Advisor to His Highness the President of the State, Dr. Ahmed Mubarak Al Mazrouei, Head of the President’s Office for Strategic Affairs and Head of the Abu Dhabi Executive Office, Yousef Al Otaiba, the UAE Ambassador to the United States, and a number of senior officials, in addition to the delegation accompanying the guest.
