More than 8% of EU workers are at risk of poverty

Brussels, 3 November / WAM / A European report revealed that more than 8% of European Union workers are at risk of poverty. The “Key Figures on Living Conditions in Europe – 2025 Edition”, issued by the European Commission, showed a comprehensive picture of living conditions in the European Union, highlighting income disparity, intensity of work, childcare, health, disability, and discrimination.
The report highlighted important data related to working people at risk of poverty, as statistics showed that 8.2% of individuals aged 18 years and over who declared that they were working – whether as employees or self-employed – were at risk of poverty in 2024.
This percentage is an indication that the risk of poverty is not limited to the unemployed or those with low activity, but also extends to the working group. The report showed that women are 7.3% less at risk of poverty than men, who are 9.0%.
At the level of member states, Luxembourg recorded the highest percentage of workers at risk of poverty at 13.4%, while Finland ranked lowest at 2.8%. The report also showed that 22 European Union countries witnessed higher rates among men than women, and the largest difference between the sexes was in Romania, where it reached 8.1 percentage points.
In Germany, the proportions were equal between the sexes, while the proportion was higher for women in Czechia, Latvia, Cyprus, and Luxembourg.
