Japan issues a tsunami warning for Iwate Prefecture

The country issued a tsunami warning for Iwate Prefecture in the north of the country yesterday, urging residents to stay away from coastal areas, NHK reported.
The authority added that the tsunami wave was detected 70 kilometers off the coast of Iwate Prefecture, and it is expected to reach the coastal strip overlooking the Pacific Ocean soon, adding that the wave is expected to reach about a meter in height.
The tsunami warning system in the United States showed that a 6.26-magnitude earthquake occurred earlier yesterday off the eastern coast of Honshu Island, the largest of Japan’s islands, which includes Iwate Prefecture.
