The launch of the Livestock Festival activities in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi, 11 November / WAM / The activities of the Livestock Festival were launched with wide participation and great interaction from livestock breeders in the country, as part of the festivals accompanying the Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Award for Agricultural Excellence in its fourth session, which is organized by the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority within the framework of supporting efforts to develop the livestock sector and enhancing its contribution to the national food security system.

The festival will continue until the middle of next February, and the start came from the Al Dhafra region, where a competition for the best weights was held at the fodder distribution center in Madinat Zayed during the period from 5 to 9 November, and witnessed competition in the “trunk” category between the breeds of Al Nuaimi, Arab, Najdi, Al Hurri, Al Ardi, and Saidi goats, in addition to other breeds of sheep.

The festival aims to highlight the most prominent local breeds and encourage breeders to improve the quality of production, in addition to highlighting national efforts in supporting and developing the animal sector, by applying the most accurate evaluation standards in the areas of quality, care and nutrition. The festival also includes live performances as well as awareness and educational activities directed to the public and participants.

The Best Weights Competition will continue as part of the Livestock Festival, and will be held in Al Ain during the period from 12 to 16 November.

As part of the Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Award for Agricultural Excellence’s keenness to enhance community participation and expand the scope of activities to include the various emirates of the country, the Best Weight Competition will be held in the Emirate of Umm Al Quwain during the period from 19 to 23 November, in the Al Labsa headquarters in the Al Labsa region, as this event is an important station to involve livestock breeders in various regions of the country, and to highlight their efforts in improving the quality of breeds and enhancing local animal production.

The competition will also be organized in the Al Wathba region in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi during the period from November 26 to 30, completing the series of events that aim to reach the largest possible segment of breeders and producers in various parts of the country, and reflects the commitment of the Authority and the award to provide equal platforms for all participants, ensuring equal opportunities and enhancing the spirit of positive competition between breeders in various geographical environments.

This step contributes to consolidating the culture of agricultural and livestock excellence at the state level, and supports food security efforts by stimulating sustainable practices and exchanging experiences between various regions, which reflects positively on the quality and diversity of national production, and contributes to building an integrated system of competencies and expertise that serves the goals of sustainable agricultural development in the UAE.

Dr. Hamid Al Kindi, Vice Chairman of the Festivals and Competitions Committee accompanying the Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Award for Agricultural Excellence, stressed that holding these festivals and accompanying competitions enhances the award’s contributions to society, as it contributes to consolidating the culture of agricultural and animal excellence, and encourages farmers and livestock breeders to adopt the best sustainable production practices, in line with the vision of the wise leadership in developing the agricultural and livestock sector in the country.

He pointed out that expanding the scope of the competitions to include other emirates and regions outside Abu Dhabi is a strategic step that reflects the award’s keenness to achieve comprehensiveness and justice in supporting breeders and producers in various agricultural environments.

He added that these events constitute an important platform for displaying national successes in the fields of plant and animal production, and highlighting Emirati competencies that work to innovate practical solutions that support the food security system. These festivals also provide an opportunity for direct interaction between producers, experts, and concerned parties, which enhances the exchange of experiences and knowledge, and consolidates the concept of comprehensive community partnership.

For his part, Adel Al-Shabibi, head of the Livestock Festival team, stressed that this festival aims to highlight the efforts of livestock breeders in the country and celebrate distinguished local breeds, through accurate assessments of quality, care and nutrition, and seeking to enhance the position of this vital sector in the national food security system. This was evident in the broad participation and accurate assessments that highlighted the quality of Emirati breeds.
