Thanks to the directives of its wise leadership, the UAE has developed an advanced infrastructure for food security

Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Tourism, visited the Grand Mills Company, one of the prominent national companies in the food industry sector, with the aim of reviewing the production and distribution of local flour, monitoring the levels of the country’s strategic stock, and strengthening the partnership between the government and private sectors.

In this context, he stressed that the UAE, under the guidance of its wise leadership, was keen to build an advanced infrastructure for food security based on the best international practices, which contributed to the development and growth of food industries, and raised the efficiency and readiness of the production capacity of food factories and companies, as this comes in line with the state’s vision of enhancing the leadership and competitiveness of the food security system at the regional and global levels.

He said: The flour industry in the UAE is witnessing remarkable development, as local mills, such as major mills, contribute to meeting the needs of the local market with high efficiency, in addition to enhancing the presence of Emirati food products in foreign markets, which reflects the competitiveness of this vital sector and its ability to support the food security system in the country, and enhance the sustainability of food supply chains.

He added: The state has adopted a proactive approach in managing the strategic stock and supply chains to ensure the continuous and efficient flow of goods and food products in the markets. In this context, the Ministry of Economy and Tourism, in cooperation with the local economic departments and concerned parties, follows up on a daily basis the quantities of stock at suppliers and sales outlets, and conducts accurate analyzes of the level of adequacy of each commodity, and there are periodic assessments of the level of the strategic stock of basic goods and of supply and demand processes.

During the tour, he was briefed on the progress of work within the Grand Mills Company and its operational plans during the next stage, including flour production and management of grain chains, in addition to the production of animal feed. The company’s activities also extend to the management and development of consumer businesses through a diverse portfolio of brands, in addition to its wide spread within the country through its own distribution network.
