$4 billion in Suez Canal revenues in 2024 compared to $10.2 billion in 2023 as a result of regional tensions.

Cairo, November 11, 2017 – Lieutenant General Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, said that the canal achieved only about $4 billion in 2024 as a result of regional tensions, while it achieved $10.2 billion in 2023, which is the highest in its history, stressing the continued provision of maritime incentives and services to enhance navigation and the competitiveness of the canal.

Rabie had outlined in a symposium at the National Press Authority the revenues achieved by the channel in five years, amounting to approximately $40 billion in revenues during the period from 2019 to 2024.

Rabie explained that revenues recorded $5.8 billion in 2019, $5.6 billion in 2020, $6.3 billion in 2021, $7.9 billion in 2022, reaching $10.2 billion in 2023 and only about $4 billion in 2024.

He pointed out that the number of ships increased from 18,880 ships in 2019 to 26,434 ships in 2023 before declining to 13,213 ships in 2024.
